Objective and Scope:

The client, a global consulting firm, was working with an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm looking to establish their own design centers of excellence (CoE). It wanted to  conduct a benchmarking study on the design CoEs of EPC companies and sought Benori’s support to:

• Understand the organizational structure, i.e., hierarchy and level within the design CoE
• Create job descriptions and titles, along with the respective roles and responsibilities of key personnel
• Catalog the services offered by the design CoE to the organization and external clients
• Headcount and FTE comparison across companies, along with their work split and supervision ratios

Approach:

Secondary research was conducted to identify and gain an in-depth understanding of key performance indicators (KPIs). This was followed by primary research, comprising targeted expert interviews with stakeholders to gather qualitative insights and data points for comprehensive analysis.

Impact:

The research helped the client in:

• Gaining deep insights into design CoE practices across the EPC companies, enabling them to make data-driven decisions related to their inception
• Empowering them to identify best practices, optimize design CoE performance, and implement strategic enhancements, resulting in increased operational efficiency and a competitive edge in the market
